The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) has officially closed both Interstate 59 ramps at Chalkville Mountain Road in Trussville.
The closure is part of a $70 million project to widen I-59 to three lanes in each direction between I-459 and exit 141.
Motorists will not be able to exit or enter I-59 northbound for approximately 40 days. Traffic will also be shifted in the area.
Wiregrass Construction Co. is performing the work and has approximately four months remaining to open the widened northbound lanes in order to receive its $1 million incentive. The southbound project was completed on time last fall. The entire project should be complete by spring 2027, ADOT said.
ALDOT urged caution as the final phases of the project are underway.
