The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is inviting the public to discuss transportation plans in its Southwest Region.

The region includes Baldwin, Clarke, Choctaw, Conecuh, Escambia, Marengo, Mobile, Washington and Wilcox Counties.

The open house will include presentations on the current transportation system and will identify improvement strategies. Discussions may cover safer roads and bridges, reduced congestion, freight movement, hurricane evacuation routes, economic development, walking, biking, transit and existing infrastructure.

The Statewide Transportation Plan is being developed to guide transportation planning through 2050.

“The plan helps guide how transportation dollars are invested over the next 20 years,” ALDOT stated. “It helps identify current and future transportation needs and priorities and supports investments that improve safety, mobility and economic growth.”

The meeting will be on July 6 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the ALDOT Southwest Region Training Building (Building T), 1701 I-65 West Service Road, North Mobile.
