The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is warning Alabamians about a texting scam claiming a toll is owed.
“You have an outstanding toll,” the messages sometimes state. “Your toll account balance is outstanding. If you fail to pay by April 2, 2025, you will face penalties or legal action.”
The text message typically includes a link to “Now payment.”
ALDOT says the messages are not sent from ALDOT and any similar text message is a scam.
The Federal Trade Commission reports that clicking a link in a scam text can lead to a phishing attack, in which the scammer tries to take your personal information or credit card information.
If you received one of these texts, do not respond or click on the link. Move the text to your phone’s junk folder or forward it to 7726 (SPAM).
ALDOT asks for help by sharing this information with friends and family.
