The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) is investigating the death of a man who led multiple agencies on a chase on December 23.
Drew Patterson Banks, 41, of Decatur was fatally wounded on Thompson Road at Burd Road in Morgan County.
Investigators said officers with the Priceville Police Department attempted to make a traffic stop at 12:50 p.m. The driver, Banks, refused to stop, and a chase ensued. Multiple agencies joined the chase before Banks stopped and exited the vehicle with what appeared to be a handgun.
“Upon further investigation, it was determined that the firearm was a full-sized replica of a Sig Sauer 1911 semiautomatic handgun,” stated ALEA.
Officers fired shots and killed Banks. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
No officers were injured.
ALEA will submit all findings to the Morgan County District Attorney’s Office.
