The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) said a woman was shot after a police chase Saturday evening in DeKalb County.
WHNT reported the woman, Amy Marie Schulte, 48, of Winchester, Va., was taken to UAB Hospital for treatment.
Deputies with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office attempted to make a traffic stop on Interstate 59 after spotting a vehicle that was the subject of a BOLO (be on the lookout) out of Dade County, Ga. The driver refused to stop, according to law enforcement. A chase ensued, joined by ALEA Troopers and Collinsville Police.
After the vehicle was disabled, Troopers reported the driver refused to obey commands and was subsequently shot. ALEA’s State Bureau of Investigation has taken over the case.
Schulte’s condition is unknown.
