The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) warned the Montgomery Police Department (MPD) in August about failing to submit crime-reporting data.

Maury Mitchell, Alabama Justice Information Commission (AJIC) executive director, said in an email to Montgomery Police Chief James Graboys in August, "All Alabama law enforcement agencies are required to electronically file submissions to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency – CJIS Division at least monthly. The Montgomery Police Department has not submitted uniform crime reporting data for May, June, or July as required by Alabama Administrative Code 265-X-3-.06."

"Your agency must comply with the rule within ninety (90) days or appear before the Alabama Justice Information Commission in January 2026 to show cause for failing to submit as required," Mitchell said in the email obtained by 1819 News. "Continued failure to submit may result in official sanctions by the Commission, including possible suspension from access to CJIS systems."

Amanda Wasden, an ALEA spokesperson, recently told 1819 News that MPD submitted the data to ALEA after the August letter.

"MPD did provide data for May, June and July as requested in the Failure to Submit letter. Those numbers are included in the chart on the 2025 Alabama Crime Reporting document, as well as their August report," Wasden said.
