The Alabama Farmers Federation endorsed Gulf Shores businessman Joe Freeman for House District 95.
Freeman, a financial professional and former law enforcement officer, is running on an anti-gambling platform against State Rep. Frances Holk-Jones (R-Foley).
“Having the endorsement of some of the hardest working people in this district — our farmers — is a great honor to me,” said Freeman. “We share the same work ethic and common-sense conservative values, and it will be an honor to ensure their voices are heard in Montgomery.”
House District 95 covers Foley, Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, Elberta, Perdido Beach and the unincorporated communities of Ono Island, Bon Secour, Fort Morgan and Josephine in Baldwin County.
“Joe Freeman is a conservative businessman who understands the importance of agriculture and business in Baldwin County,” said Hope Cassebaum, president of the Baldwin County Farmers Federation. “Joe will take the needs of farmers, business owners and all the people in House District 95 to Montgomery.”
ALFA described Freeman as a community servant, volunteer and contributor to civic organizations and charities.
ALFA endorsed Holk-Jones in her 2022 campaign.
However, the Farmer’s Federation has long-opposed gambling expansion in Alabama. While Freeman vowed to do everything he can to keep casinos out of Baldwin County, Holk-Jones supported gambling legislation in 2024.
In 2025, Holk-Jones, a State Farm insurance agent, also voiced concern over language in a bill to allow ALFA to provide health insurance for its members. Holk-Jones was one out of only two Republicans to vote against House Bill 477.
Freeman told 1819 News he wants to fight to save Alabama agriculture and farmers, protect natural resources and focus on education.
Freeman and his wife, Mignon, have six children and attend The Island Church.
