The Alabama Farmers Federation (ALFA) announced on Thursday its endorsement of former U.S. Rep. Jerry Carl (R-Mobile) for Congressional District 1.
The district encompasses parts of Mobile and all of Baldwin, Coffee, Covington, Dale, Escambia, Geneva Henry and Houston Counties.
Carl served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2021 to 2025. During the 118th Congress, he served on the powerful Committee on Appropriations as a member of the Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration and Related Agencies. He previously served on the Mobile County Commission, where he was elected president.
U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise), who defeated Carl in the 2024 primary for the seat, is running for the Senate instead of seeking reelection.
“I am deeply honored to receive the endorsement of the Farmers Federation and Alabama’s outstanding farm community,” Carl said. “Our farmers represent the very backbone of this nation — men and women whose hard work and dedication sustain our way of life.”
Carl and his wife, Tina, have two children and three grandchildren.
ALFA is the state’s largest farm organization with more than 360,000 member families.
