MONTGOMERY — The Alabama Republican Party (ALGOP) executive committee met on Saturday to elect its slate of delegates for this year's Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.
The meeting was the first of its kind since a bylaw change adopted by the ALGOP executive committee in 2023, which delegates elected by the committee rather than voters picking delegates from the ballot during the Republican primary.
U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) was selected by acclamation to serve as the delegate chairman.
He addressed the attendees following the announcement.
"Folks, this is serious business," Tuberville said to the delegates assembled at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Montgomery. "Now, we're going to have a good time. I've seen the itinerary. We're going to have a real good time. But while we're there and working, we're going to work, and we're going to get the job done. But you can only do it one way, and I know you do this as people from the great state of Alabama."
"You're going to do it with enthusiasm, and you're going to do it together as a team," he added. "Go up and have a good time, but show the people from all other 49 states because we're the first out of the chute to select the next representative of the Republican Party to be the next president. We're the first out of the chute to get Donald Trump going in the right direction."
