The Aliceville Police Department arrested a high school teacher on charges related to child pornography.

Roderick Granger, 41, is charged with possession, dissemination, solicitation and failure to report.

Granger is a math teacher at Aliceville High School. He was taken into custody on Friday.

"The Aliceville Police Department remains committed to protecting the innocent and ensuring justice for victims," said Aliceville Police Chief Tonnie Jones. "The public is reminded that sharing, downloading, or viewing such material is a serious felony offense."

The Pickens County School System released a statement saying they are aware of the arrest.

"We want to assure our families and community that the district is fully cooperating with local law enforcement authorities," stated Superintendent Shawn McDaniel. "The matter is currently an active criminal investigation being handled by the appropriate agencies. Because of the ongoing investigation and to protect the integrity of the legal process, the district is unable to provide additional details at this time.

"The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority," McDaniel continued. "As per district policy, appropriate personnel actions have been taken pending the outcome of the investigation."

McDaniel said the school system is committed to transparency.

Granger is considered innocent until proven guilty.
