President Donald Trump signed a peace deal with Iran on Wednesday but warned hostilities could resume if “they don’t behave.”
The Trump administration issued the 14-point memorandum of understanding it had signed with Iran, including lifting sanctions, allowing oil sales and devising a $300 billion reconstruction plan with regional partners, CBS reported. Both sides have 60 days to sign the final agreement or to extend the signing period.
Still, questions linger about the deal and how it will be enforced. U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) encouraged doubters to trust that the Trump administration has the situation under control.
“There will be no money given, no money given whatsoever. There won't even be sanctions [lifted] until we make sure that they do the right thing when it comes to the uranium. So, I don't think we have to worry about that,” Tuberville said Wednesday on Fox Business Network’s “Kudlow.”
He continued, “I think President Trump's adamant that, you know, we've given way too much money away overseas in Ukraine. What, $350 billion? American taxpayers, Larry, they can't afford it. We're dead broke up here. So, we've got to make sure if we're going to spend any money, we spend it the right way. And it surely doesn't need to be in Iran.”
Tuberville said he didn’t trust Iran to stick to the deal without pressure and repeated Trump’s warning about what would happen if they broke the agreement.
“They're awful. They're batting a 1,000% of lying to us every time they do some kind of deal," he outlined. "But I trust President Trump. I trust Vice President Vance. We don't need to listen to anybody up here on Capitol Hill. Let's trust these two. They've been at this now since they've been in office."
“We're fortunate that our first strike was a perfect strike on about 50 to 55 of their leaders, Larry. And at the end of the day, it's the only time in your lifetime that we've had this opportunity. So, let's take advantage of it. Let's put the pressure on them. And again, like he said, all heck will break loose if they break this treaty," Tuberville added.
