An illegal alien from Guatemala is now facing multiple charges after causing a two-vehicle crash on Christmas Day in Florence driving while intoxicated.
According to the Florence Police Department, Martin Jimenez Miranda, 36, struck another vehicle at the intersection of Florence Boulevard and Broadway Street.
A female driver and a juvenile female occupied the vehicle Miranda hit. One of the occupants reportedly sustained serious physical injuries as a result of the crash.
After arriving on the scene, officers conducted a driving under the influence (DUI) test, which Miranda failed. He was then arrested and charged with assault in the first degree, assault in the third degree and DUI.
Miranda was transported to the Lauderdale County Detention Center and is currently being held under an Immigration and Customs Enforcement hold.
