Following his inauguration on Monday, President Donald Trump quickly got to work signing orders to jumpstart his agenda and undo some of the damage from the previous administration.

U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery), who witnessed the day's events, said a new feeling of "pride" and "hope" was as palpable in the Capitol Rotunda as Trump was sworn in as it was for millions of Americans nationwide.

"When you talk about that pride and that hope, that's what Americans feel. Today, I was sitting next to my colleagues that came in with me in the 118th class — Ted Budd, Eric Schmitt, Pete Ricketts — and we said, 'America is back,'" Britt told Newsmax Monday.

"So this hopefulness, this of like safety and security of American citizens, prosperity, opportunity coming to each and every American, that's what we feel," she continued. "And you feel like you have someone, just like you said, President Trump has their back, that our men and women in uniform, the American people, feel like they finally have a commander in chief back in the office that has their back as well. So it's an exciting day, and you can feel the energy all across this city, and I believe all across the country as well."

Britt praised Trump for engendering a new spirit of unity among the GOP and establishing a clear vision to deliver results.

"I have not had an opportunity over the last two years to feel the level of unity that I feel today," she said. "It has been building and building since President Trump came and met with all of the Republican senators this summer. And we just continue to feel like we are the party of parents, the party of hard-working Americans. you know, we are the party of opportunity. He has given us a vision. The American people has put their stamp of approval on that vision, and now it's our job to execute. No matter where you're looking in the Republican conference, people understand that and they understand that now is the time to get to work. So there's an excitement, there's a level of feeling we're actually going to achieve results for the American people."

Britt again touted the Laken Riley Act, which passed the Senate on Monday and will soon be sent to Trump's desk for signing.
