The active and proactive Shelby County Arts Council is hosting the two opening nights of Taylor Hicks’ 2025 tour.

Hicks is the Alabama native who, in 2006, won American Idol year five and launched a musical career from there.

The Shelby Country Arts Council will showcase "An Evening with Taylor Hicks" at Song Theater in Columbiana.

The two shows are on Friday, January 10, and Saturday, January 11, both at 7:30 p.m. and two hours long.

Hicks is an artist, singer, harmonica player, guitarist and gifted songwriter.

The Song Theater is an intimate, 216-seat venue with state-of-the-art sound. The official trailer for the show from the council:

There’s not a bad seat in the theater, and beverages are complimentary with your ticket. We go the extra mile to make you feel at home! See Taylor Hicks (duo) up close and personal, playing his originals and all your favorites. Limited space, get your tickets in advance!

Stephen McCullough will open the night!

A strong presence is expected at the Alabama shows from Hicks’ cult following, the “Soul Patrol.”  Jimmy Buffett had The Parrotheads, and Taylor Hicks has the Soul Patrol.

Hicks was born in Birmingham, grew up in Hoover, graduated Hoover High School playing baseball and basketball, and studied business at Auburn.

The now 48-year-old is known for his greying hair, which began at age 14.

In 2000, Hicks went to Nashville, where he recorded with and was mentored by veteran Alabama singer Percy Sledge of Muscle Shoals.

Hicks’ hits include:

"Do I Make You Proud?"

"What’s Right is Right"

"Six String and Diamond Rings"

"Porch Swing"

He performed at the 2012 Republican National Convention.

Hicks also performs in musicals, including “Grease,” where he played the part of “Teen Angel.”

Hicks is headlining "Opry at the Ryman" in Nashville on Saturday. More information here.
