American Village in Montevallo is hosting the “centerpiece” of Alabama’s celebration of the nation’s 250th birthday.

“Sweet Home 250” music, arts and food festival is happening July 3-4. It will serve as the official event for the State of Alabama.

The entertainment lineup includes Taylor Hicks, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Myles Morgan and the Crimson Pride Chorus, among others.

For food, celebrity chef Jonathan Harrison will be in attendance with other Alabama chefs to hand out samples. There will also be a Blue Bell Brain Freeze Challenge, a Priester’s mini pecan pie eating contest and a Conecuh Little Chief Challenge.

Great American stories from Alabama will be told, including presentations from meteorologist James Spann, sports anchor Jeff Speegle and radio legend Rick Burgess.

There will be art galleries, a kids’ zone, dog stunt shows and a fireworks show. General admission tickets start at $20 and can be purchased online.
