Alabama is missing an opportunity to tell its story with the state's pavilion at the Great American State Fair, according to State Rep. Craig Lipscomb (R-Gadsden).

The display is part of the Great American State Fair in Washington, D.C., celebrating America's 250th birthday.

Lipscomb said on Facebook on Sunday, "I wanted to express my disappointment with Alabama's pavilion at the America 250 celebration in Washington, D.C."

"I've heard from several constituents who have visited the exhibit, and unfortunately, the consensus has been that Alabama's display is among the weakest of all the states and territories represented. While other pavilions are creating memorable, interactive experiences that celebrate their unique culture and inspire tourism, Alabama's presence consists primarily of a small collection of easel displays, peanuts, foam golf balls, and a looping playlist of only a handful of songs," Lipscomb said. "Meanwhile, Florida is distributing plush alligators, the Dominican Republic is teaching visitors to salsa dance, and many other exhibits are offering immersive experiences that leave a lasting impression. Alabama, a state with an extraordinary musical heritage, world class beaches, unmatched civil rights history, incredible outdoor recreation, and one of the nation's fastest growing tourism industries, should be among the very best represented."

He continued, "America 250 is a once in a generation opportunity to introduce millions of visitors to everything Alabama has to offer. We should be showcasing our music, food, innovation, history, culture, and hospitality in a way that makes people want to visit our state. Instead, we're missing an opportunity to tell Alabama's story."

"The good news is that we still have a few days left to change that. I encourage those responsible for Alabama's exhibit to take immediate steps to elevate the experience before next weekend," Lipscomb said. "Our state deserves a pavilion that reflects the pride, creativity, and hospitality for which Alabamians are known. Let's make the most of the time we have remaining and ensure visitors leave with an impression of Alabama that matches the greatness of our state."

The Great American State Fair features exhibits that represent all 56 states and territories.

The fair is being held through July 10 on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.

According to a press release last week from Gov. Kay Ivey, Alabama's pavilion "celebrates the industries, culture and rich history that have propelled Alabama to the forefront of innovation and opportunity. Displays showcase Alabama's role in advancing the nation's economy, culture and defense. Features include agricultural products, aerospace and defense highlights, civil rights tributes and even a soundtrack with the state's musical legacies. Additionally, the pavilion features a larger-than-life cutout of Governor Ivey, interactive photo opportunities and Alabama-themed giveaways."
