The Mobile Police Department confirmed two people were killed early Saturday after a vehicle was struck by a train.
The collision occurred at Bellingrath Road near Peary Road. A public affairs manager with the Department of Public Safety told 1819 News the crash happened just before 7 a.m. It is unclear if there are crossing arms at the railroad crossing.
The train involved was an Amtrak passenger rail. The train left Mobile at 6:30 a.m. and was stopped for nearly three hours after the crash. The train resumed travel at 10:30 a.m.
The Mobile Fire-Rescue Department also responded.
The Amtrak Mardi Gras service has been in operation for six months.
