As I age and thus settle into a more “get off my lawn” attitude, I become increasingly aggravated by cheap imitations of what I hold dear. Food, comedy, music … Southern accents in movies. So many areas are being cheapened by a culture that is growing increasingly less creative and original.
Nothing overcooks my grits, though, more than the cheap iterations and representations of Our Lord. Just as ancient civilizations would chisel desired features into idols made of rocks and wood, modern-day false believers carve out the modern god named My Jesus.
“My Jesus says love is love, and marriage can be between two men or two women,” thereby excusing homosexuality.
“My Jesus says it’s a woman’s right to choose reproductive healthcare,” thereby supporting abortion.
“My Jesus says straight, white, Christian men should acknowledge their tyrannical and destructive role in history and current society,” thereby perpetuating race-based cultural Marxism.
As 1819 News reported, Mrs. Leslie Maxwell-Kaiura, a UAH professor, joined the masses to criticize Charlie Kirk after his assassination, citing his “racist, sexist, and homo/transphobic language”. What she’s talking about, of course, was Mr. Kirk’s prowess at biblically refuting the modern-day lies of the DEI platform, feminism and sexual immorality.
But I want to take this one step further … because she does. She makes several truth claims about Jesus in her ranting post that don’t sit well with me.
Let’s briefly consider some of her claims and a biblical response to them, thereby dispelling her god, My Jesus. Kirk’s shocking murder was several months ago and seems to have fallen prey to the algorithm’s memory hole, but the truth of Christ is always worth defending. Also, I’m a doctor…so it’s fitting I’m running behind.
“Jesus never once treated the marginalized people or the ‘sinners’ of his day with mockery or rejection.”
This is a classic modern-day, secular tactic of commandeering vague moral language for political gain. So, we have to define our terms. Is her “marginalized” and Jesus’ marginalized one and the same? Her “marginalized” draws from Kirk’s biblical stance on the unrepentant, sinful lifestyles of homosexuality, transgenderism, feminism and cultural Marxism. Jesus’ marginalized people were the outcasts of a society that had sinfully and legalistically cast them out (the woman with a menstrual disorder, a paralyzed man, etc.). These people also came to saving faith in Christ … with which comes obedience. So, no, the esteemed professor’s “marginalized” is not who Jesus considers marginalized. There is a difference between unrepentant and repentant. An eternal difference.
Additionally, yes … Jesus did use rejection and mockery. When and where it was due. He mocked the Pharisees repeatedly whenever He asked, “Have you not read…?” Of course, they had read Scripture. They knew it inside and out; they had it memorized. He mocked them for knowing what Scripture said yet being clueless about what it meant. They had taken the pure and perfect Word of God and perverted it into a false religion for ill-gotten gain. Furthermore, He absolutely rejected them every single time (seven, to be exact). Go read Matthew 23:13-36 for yourself; see if you detect just a bit of rejection.
“He did not try to force his teachings on others; in fact, he advocated quite the opposite.”
Insert eye roll emoji here. Presumably, she’s criticizing Kirk’s exclusive claims of Christ being the only way, as I don’t ever remember him forcing Christianity on anyone. Forcing religion/ beliefs on people is what we see with Islam. Or, you know … Kirk’s assassin.
Jesus definitely told people to count the cost of following Him (Luke 14:25-33), which is not “forceful.” Yet, He did say some things that would be counted by today’s leftists as violence. “I have not come to bring peace, but a sword,” He says in Matthew 10:34 as He’s reminding His disciples that the truth of God will divide them (and us) from the unbelieving world. Uh oh. So much for the left’s sacrosanct Doctrine of Inclusion. This is enough to drag Jesus into the DEI principal’s office.
In closing, it’s yet another attempt at claiming the name of Jesus for political ends. And I reject it. I reject atrocious Southern accents from Hollywood (looking at you, Alec Baldwin in "Ghosts of Mississippi"), pre-made pecan pies, AI-generated music and all attempts at passing off Christ as someone He is not. In fact, I will have to say the same thing to Mrs. Maxwell-Kaiura as my mamaw said to me when I lied about stealing her Bruton snuff: “Don’t piss down my back and tell me it’s raining.”
“I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
