Alabama State Auditor Andrew Sorrell qualified to run for re-election on Monday.

Sorrell told 1819 News he was ending his candidacy for Secretary of State.

“I’ve determined that I can best serve my fellow Alabamians by giving them an experienced and committed state auditor with a proven track record of defending taxpayers and protecting the dollars they send to Montgomery,” Sorrell said. “I’ll continue fighting for accountability in state government and promoting the values that earned me national recognition as the most conservative official in the Alabama State House.”

With Sorrell’s departure from the Secretary of State’s race, Caroleene Dobson is the remaining announced candidate in the Republican primary.

Other announced candidates in the Republican primary for State Auditor include Derek Chen and Josh Pendergrass. Primary elections in Alabama will take place on May 19.
