Former Baldwin County Board of Education (BOE) member Angie Swiger announced her run for mayor of Gulf Shores.

Swiger, a local business owner, said she wants to see growth better managed and wants to focus on giving businesses a voice.

“I have raised my family here, built and run several businesses here, and served our schools and community for 11 years on the school board,” Swiger said. “I truly love Gulf Shores, it matters to me, and I am going to make decisions in our city government that reflect our values as a community. I see myself as ‘The People’s Mayor’ and will make sure that I am always serving the people of Gulf Shores with transparency, honesty, and purpose.”

Specifically, Swiger wants to form a new Citizen Advisory Committee.

She also wants to focus on schools. During her time as a BOE member, she led initiatives such as the Learning for Life Career Academy, foreign language instruction in elementary schools, and she pushed to increase technology in classrooms.

Swiger, her husband and their four children have lived in Gulf Shores since 2003. They attend Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church.

Municipal elections will be held on August 26.
