Following the death of three people in a boat collision during a Major League Fishing tournament on Smith Lake, a professional angler from Georgia has been indicted by a Cullman County grand jury on three counts of manslaughter.

According to court documents, Flint Davis, 22, struck another vessel when operating a boat, killing Joe Broom, 58, of Altoona, John Clark, 44, of Cullman, and Jeffrey Little, 62, of Mississippi on the morning of April 16, 2025. Two other individuals, also on the console boat hit, sustained injuries and were taken from the scene to receive medical care. Davis was allegedly speeding at 67 mph when the wreck occurred.

In addition to the manslaughter charges, Davis has also been charged with two counts of first-degree assault, reckless operation of a vehicle, failure to follow boating rules of the road and boating without a boater safety certification.

Davis was booked into the Cullman County Jail on Thursday and was released shortly thereafter on a $115,000 bond.

Family members of the three men killed are suing Davis, Major League Fishing, its president and Smith Lake Striper Guide Service. The parties are claiming in the lawsuit that Davis lacked a valid boating license and was traveling at an unsafe speed when the fatal wreck occurred.
