A contract helicopter pilot was killed and another person injured Wednesday afternoon during routine flight training at Fort Novosel.
The flight instructor was operating the AH-64 Apache when it went down.
The U.S. Army Aviation Center of Excellence and Fort Novosel Public Affairs Office said a “mishap” caused the crash. The specific cause of the crash has not been determined.
The U.S. Army student pilot on board was airlifted by an Army MEDEVAC helicopter to a hospital and was treated for minor injuries.
U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) stated on X that he and his wife are praying for those involved.
"Heather and I are heartbroken to hear about the helicopter crash at Fort Novosel today," he wrote. "We are praying for a swift recovery for the student pilot who was injured, and comfort for the loved ones of the instructor who passed away."
