Arkansas recently became the first state in the nation to drop PBS programming.
The Arkansas Educational Television Commission voted last week to end its affiliation with PBS by July 2026.
However, in November, Gov. Kay Ivey asked the Alabama Educational Television Commission in a letter to conduct a public survey and review before disaffiliating from PBS programming.
Alabama Public Television officials had been considering cutting ties with PBS. The Republican-controlled Congress and President Donald Trump recently cut federal funding to NPR and PBS. Some conservatives have long advocated for NPR and PBS to lose their federal funding due to the outlets' perceived left-wing biases.
Members of the Alabama Educational Television Commission voted at a November meeting to continue offering PBS programming through June 30, 2026.
The commission oversees the programming and finances of Alabama Public Television.
