The Montgomery Police Department has made an arrest in a Sunday night murder that claimed the life of 22-year-old Noel Avido Lopez, the most recent in a slew of violent crimes affecting Hispanics in Montgomery.

Yesman Bardales-Antunez, 18, a Montgomery resident, was arrested on Monday morning in Jefferson County. He was transported to the Montgomery County detention center on capital murder charges and is being held without bail under Alabama’s Aniah’s Law.

Court records state that Lopez was in a car when he was fatally shot just before 3:00 a.m. Sunday morning. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No motive has been released, and police have not said if Lopez and Bardales-Antunez knew one another.

Lopez’s murder is one of a series of violent crimes committed against a Hispanic in Montgomery.
