A Mobile football star turned NFL prospect is a "fighter" and is in good spirits after being released from the hospital following a fatal crash.
Investigators believe former Louisiana wide receiver Michael Jefferson, 23, was driving a 2014 Dodge Charger on Easter Sunday that was hit by another car head-on. The driver of the other car was Charles A. Dunn, 55. After the head-on collision, another car hit Dunn's car. Dunn was pronounced dead on the scene.
Jefferson's attorney claimed "a drunk driver tragically hit" his client. However, he said Jefferson was optimistic that even after several surgeries, he would complete rehabilitation and continue onto the NFL.
Jefferson played the last two seasons at Louisiana after transferring from Alabama State. He finished with his best season, catching 51 passes for 810 yards and seven touchdowns.
He's projected as a potential late-round pick in the NFL Draft, which starts April 27.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency's (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division is investigating. ALEA refuses to confirm if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
