Hugh Freeze’s hot start as Auburn’s head football coach continued Thursday with another big-time signing through the transfer portal. The Tigers have landed one of the top defensive tackles in the transfer portal and a former five-star from Kentucky, Justin Rogers.
With interest from Alabama and LSU, Rogers chose to spend the 2023 season with the Auburn Tigers.
“The environment and the coaching staff,” Rogers said in a 247Sports interview on choosing Auburn. “It’s a small college town, and that’s one thing I want — I want a real-life college town, no city. This is all college.”
Rogers is one of two former four-stars to commit to the Tigers in the last three days, including interior offensive lineman Avery Jones, who de-committed from Illinois before choosing the Tigers.
Jones will have a spot on the interior of the offensive line, and Rogers will find a similar role with the Tigers.
Originally an offensive lineman, he switched to the other side of the ball when he arrived at Kentucky.
In 26 games over three years with the Wildcats, Rogers tallied 61 tackles, five tackles for loss and three sacks.
Rogers and Avery Jones now give the Tigers the No. 4 class in the 247Sports transfer portal rankings. He will join a group that includes Jayson Jones and Jeffrey M’Ba, all looking to fill the void left by Colby Wooden.
