The historic Auburn-Alabama basketball matchup over the weekend was not just big in the state.
According to ESPN, the Saturday 3 p.m. meeting between the No. 1 Tigers and No. 2 Crimson Tide was the most-watched ESPN game of the season. The game averaged 2.8 million viewers, with the peak audience hitting 3.5 million viewers.
The game marked the second most-watched game of the season across all networks. It was also the highest-rated game for any SEC men's basketball game on the ESPN network since the 2018-2019 season.
For comparison, the second-most watched game of the weekend across the ESPN platform was the 6 p.m. UNC-Syracuse tipoff, which averaged 1.8 million viewers.
Auburn won the first game of the season series 94-85. The rivals meet again on March 8.
