Auburn University head football coach Hugh Freeze said he is praying for the family of 16-year-old Caden Tellier, who died after suffering a head injury during a football game Friday.

"I just can't imagine the difficulty they're going through, so our thoughts and prayers are with them," Freeze said in his Monday weekly press conference.

Freeze said he would also be praying for the coach and the team at John T. Morgan Academy, where Tellier was a student.

The school released a statement following the tragic incident.

"It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you that Caden Tellier has gone to be with his Lord and Savior," said Dr. Bryan Oliver, headmaster of Morgan Academy. "Caden loved the Lord with all his heart and was a shining light every day he graced the halls of Morgan Academy. He was a student, a friend, an athlete and most important a Christ follower."

"There are no words to describe how we feel as a school community and family," he continued.

Tellier was playing in the opening game of the season in Selma when he suffered a traumatic brain injury. He was flown to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Tellier is remembered as kind, generous and loving.

A GoFundMe account for Tellier's family has raised over $100,000.
