Auburn defensive lineman Trill Carter was shot late Thursday night in Charlotte, N.C.

According to ESPN, Carter was shot in the chest by an unknown suspect around midnight in a parking lot in uptown Charlotte. He was transported to a local hospital for a few hours and later released.

Surgery wasn’t required and no suspects or witnesses were listed on the police report of the incident, according to the outlet.

Carter, who just finished his sixth year of college football, is a transfer defensive lineman from the University of Texas. An Auburn University spokesperson told the outlet the school is aware of the shooting but would not comment further on the matter.
