The Pentagon recently announced a nearly $49 million grant for Auburn University to advance research on aviation and missile modernization.
The Department of Defense (DoD) announced the grant, along with a series of additional grants, to universities across the country.
The grant, in the form of a cost-no-fee indefinite-delivery contract, is for $48.9 million to be disbursed on a needs basis, with an expected completion date of April 2031.
The money will be used for research and development for engineering and aviation services supporting the Combat Capabilities Development Command Aviation and Missile Command (DEVCOM AvMC) at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville.

DEVCOM AvMC boasts that it is "the nexus of Army aviation and missile modernization, fusing the operational requirements of Transformation and Training Command with the acquisition strategies of the Portfolio Acquisition Executives," the site reads. "The Center generates innovative science and responsive life-cycle engineering that allows the PAEs to execute programs at speed, delivering the asymmetric capabilities required to ensure our Soldiers dominate on the battlefield."
The Pentagon also announced another $14 million grant to Range Generation Next LLC in Virginia for continued support of the Reagan Test Site and Kwajalein Islands operations. That work will also be conducted through Redstone Arsenal's Space and Missile Defense Command.
