On Tuesday, Autauga County voters rejected a seven-mill property tax increase for local education funding by a 61% to 39% margin.
According to the Alabama Secretary of State’s Office, 16,257 voted no on the property tax hike, and 10,390 voted yes.
The measure would have increased local funding by approximately $7,000,000 per year. The proposed seven-mill increase would have cost an additional $70 per year in taxes per $100,000 of value for owner-occupied residential property, resulting in an approximate 20% increase.
