MOBILE — Mobile International Airport (BFM) announced Tuesday that Avelo Airlines would soon offer nonstop flights from Mobile to Orlando.

For as low as an introductory rate of $29, Avelo Airlines chairman and CEO Andrew Levy said the company was offering nonstop flights to Orlando.

"We look forward to introducing the Northern Gulf to Avelo's low fares, industry-leading reliability and caring service," Levy added. "Alabama represents the 22nd state Avelo will serve, and we'll be taking flight from Mobile's most convenient airport – which will make getting to Orlando easier and faster than ever. We're excited to be the only airline in Mobile offering nonstop flights to The Sunshine State."

The Boeing Next-Generation 737 will fly to Orlando on Thursdays and return on Sundays beginning May 31.

"This is a very exciting opportunity for our citizens to take advantage of," said Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson. "And when you hear it only costs $29 to fly to Orlando, that should get your attention. It got my attention anyway, but we're very, very excited about it being in Mobile, and these are not regional jets that they're flying. These are big jets that they're flying."

Stimpson said the $29 flights would only last for a limited time, but passengers can book now for dates through September 6.
