A United States Marine officer is facing multiple charges in Lauderdale County after officers said he set at least two fires in Rogersville.

Jacob Harmon, 31, of Stafford, Va., is charged with two counts of second-degree arson, first-degree criminal mischief, second-degree possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to Rogersville Police chief Brian Hudson.

Hudson told 1819 News the two fires occurred near County Road 564 at a home and a camper. Upon arrival, officers approached Harmon, who identified himself as Jesus. They said he is also suspected of burning Bibles and some Arabic materials.

After investigating, police determined Harmon had gone AWOL from a veteran’s hospital where he was receiving treatment for mental issues. He is suspected of similar incidents in at least two other states.

Harmon was booked into the Lauderdale County Detention Center on bonds totaling $63,500. He is considered innocent until proven guilty.
