A Friday night shooting in Sylacauga took the life of a student and football player. Dmarcus Riggins, 17, was reported killed in a shooting in the Drew Court neighborhood inside the Sylacauga city limits.
B.B. Comer Memorial High School posted this brief statement Saturday, asking for prayers.
"Tiger Nation, please keep our school, students and athletes in your prayers as they mourn the loss of a classmate. The sanctuary at Sylacauga First Assembly will be open from 4-6 Saturday for anyone affected by the loss of one of our students, friends and family. Coaches, teachers and pastors will be available," the school stated.
One other victim was wounded in the shooting. His name and condition have not been released.
Sylacauga City Councilwoman Laura Barlow Heath reacted, by stating, “Another senseless tragedy. He was a good kid.”
The victim’s mother, Latrice Riggins, announced on Facebook, "It is with deep sadness to tell everyone my son has passed…Dmarcus Riggins I love you and you will truly be missed."
No details or police report are available at this time. An investigation is ongoing.
