The state of Alabama has won its fair share of collegiate gymnastics championships, and the first women's gymnastics team in the state to ever win a national championship is set to receive its rings after a 48-year wait.

Jefferson State Community College's gymnastics team went back-to-back in 1977 and 1978, and the team will be holding a reunion this weekend to commemorate their achievement.

Much to head coach Dr. Tom Henderson's dismay, the teams never got rings for winning nationals, but that is set to change. The rings won't be in on time for this weekend's reunion, but every member of the team, as well as Henderson and his wife, will receive them.

The reunion will be held on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Jeff State.
