A person was shot and killed by a Baldwin County Sheriff’s deputy Sunday night after officials say the subject produced a gun during a struggle.

According to Baldwin County Major Crimes Unit Chairman Al Tolbert, deputies pulled over a vehicle on the Baldwin Beach Express just before 5 p.m. A physical altercation ensued between one of the occupants of the vehicle and two deputies.

"During the struggle, the deputies verbally commanded the subject to stop fighting and comply with their instructions," Tolbert said. "At some point, the subject produced a firearm and was shot by one of the Baldwin County Deputies."

The incident happened near Highway 90 in Robertsdale.

The subject was pronounced dead on the scene. Tolbert said the subject's name would not be released at this time.
