ROBERTSDALE — A Robertsdale man is in jail in Baldwin County after investigators said he attacked his girlfriend on March 10 when she confronted him about allegations he raped an 11-year-old child.

David Scott Perez, 36, is charged with domestic violence assault second-degree, domestic violence strangulation, interference with a domestic violence emergency call, rape first-degree and sexual abuse of a child under 12 years of age.

According to court documents, the girlfriend and Perez got into a physical altercation after she questioned him about allegations he raped the child. During the altercation, both parties were injured, but deputies said Perez struck the girlfriend several times with a closed fist and a broomstick, causing broken facial bones then strangled her until she became unconscious. The victim told investigators when she tried to call 911, he took her phone from her and continued to attack her.

Perez was taken into custody, and deputies continued investigating the rape allegations.

“In the days following the domestic incident, further interviews were conducted, and a statement was given by the juvenile victim in this case,” the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office revealed in a press release. “The child victim said that David Perez had sexual intercourse and other sexual contact with her as well.”

Perez and his girlfriend were both treated at hospitals, and Perez was booked into the Baldwin County Jail on March 17. A preliminary hearing has been set for March 30.

Perez is considered innocent until proven guilty.
