The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office arrested a mother in connection with the death of her 17-month-old son.
Kaitlynn Dominick, 22, is charged with manslaughter and aggravated child abuse involving a child under the age of six.
Investigators were contacted on May 5 by the Alabama Department of Human Resources (DHR).
A physician at USA Health Children’s & Women’s Hospital officials contacted DHR after the death of the boy who had a surgically implanted gastric feeding tube. The doctor reported that Dominick brought her child to the hospital, where he died. Lab results performed that day alarmed hospital staff.
After investigators claimed they received inconsistent statements from Dominick, interviews were conducted with medical personnel and family members. During a follow-up, detectives said the mother admitted she mixed a liquid solution and administered it to her son, causing his death.
Dominick is considered innocent until proven guilty. Family and friends have raised over $8,000 for Dominick after the loss of her son. They say the young mother has struggled with the death and asked for prayers.
