Baldwin County superintendent Eddie Tyler is retiring after over 10 years with the district.

During the regular board meeting on Thursday, the Board of Education (BOE) approved a memorandum of understanding allowing Tyler to continue working as a transitional consultant through July.

Interim Superintendent Marty McRae will serve effective April 1. McRae has served as the assistant superintendent for security, athletics and student services.

The BOE will begin the search for the next superintendent, and board members tell 1819 News the move comes at a good time and will allow enough time for a new superintendent to be in place by the start of the 2026-27 school year.

District 2 BOE member Andrea Lindsey became emotional at the end of the meeting, thanking Tyler for his service.

“It has been a joyride for me to work with you,” said Lindsey. “I love you as a friend. You’ve been a great leader. You’ve chosen the best people to work with and I appreciate your leadership and you will be missed. Thank you.”

Tyler was appointed superintendent on Sept. 17, 2015.
