MADISON — During Tuesday evening's North Alabama U.S. Senate Candidate Forum, U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) explained his position on the war in Iran, while also praising President Donald Trump's decision to conduct military operations against the Middle Eastern country.
Moore, who was in Washington, D.C. at the time of the forum and connected remotely, argued that the Iranian government only "understands strength through power."
"These folks understand strength through power. I think that President Trump is doing what he needs to do, what many presidents said they would do, but he is actually accomplishing something that we needed to accomplish," Moore stated. "We did not need them to have a nuclear weapon. What we saw was that they were enriching uranium even after Operation Midnight Hammer activities, where we went in at night and destroyed some of their facilities. They continued to enrich uranium down there and thumb their nose at the American people and the region. "
The congressman applauded Trump for forcing the Iranians to negotiate an all-be-it tenuous ceasefire through the use of military force.
"They simply will not do what normal people would do in these circumstances," Moore reiterated. "So, the fact that we've now had a ceasefire announced, I think the President has gotten those folks to the table and destroyed 92% of their navy. Basically, we have air superiority in Iran."
"We're glad to see those folks coming to the table. But again, the only thing they understand is power," Moore added.
According to multiple news sources, negotiations between Iran and the United States mediated by Pakistan remain ongoing during the ceasefire
