U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) backed President Donald Trump delaying the signing of housing legislation on Wednesday for leverage to pass the SAVE America Act.

Trump canceled a scheduled news conference on housing legislation on Wednesday morning. He called the SAVE America Act “desperately needed” and a “National Emergency.”

Moore, the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate in Alabama, said, “There is no legislation that is more important than the SAVE America Act.”

“The Senate needs to listen to @POTUS and NUKE the filibuster to pass the SAVE America Act!” Moore said on X.

The legislation, dubbed the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, passed the U.S. Senate by an 85-5 vote. U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) voted in favor of the bill. U.S. Sen. Tuberville (R-Auburn) voted against the legislation.

The SAVE America Act would require voters to provide documentary proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote in federal elections.
