On Wednesday, U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) lambasted congressional Democrats, saying the government shutdown, which is in its 29th day, was all about "power" and "control."

Moore noted on WVNN's "The Yaffee Program" that Democrats have said for themselves how they were using the shutdown as "leverage."

"[R]emember, this is the Democrat Party that limited monoclonal antibodies to red states during COVID — the same party that let your loved ones die in hospitals alone," Moore outlined. "This is about power for them and about control. And they're just using this as leverage."

"I mean, Schumer said every day of the shutdown gets better for us. And then Rep. Katherine Clark, who's a Democrat in Massachusetts, the number two in House Democrat leadership, said, well, there will be families that suffer, but it's one of a few leverage times that we have. So it's really about politics," he continued. "It's not about this is a cruel group of people. It's about politics. It's not about policy. It's not about American workers and people that are suffering. This is simply about them trying to make a power move, to do some things that we've tried to fix in the first 10 months of President Trump's administration."

"They want to undo that. And they want $1.5 trillion to open your government for five weeks," Moore added.

The South Alabama lawmaker called on five Senate Democrats to join their Republican colleagues to pass a clean continuing resolution to reopen the government.

"We just need five Senate Democrats to join us on this," Moore explained. "And so we need to hold the line. I think the Republicans are going to. And I think it's time for five senators to join us in opening the government so we can address some of these other things they say are the reason they're doing it."

"But really, it's about control," he concluded. "And it's like they just want a Christmas wish list. And we're not willing to give it to them."
