U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) took to social media Thursday with a video message, criticizing U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and his fellow Democrats for causing the ongoing government shutdown.

"Schumer is holding up the funding of your government, penalizing the American people to add $1.5 trillion in spending," Moore, a candidate for U.S. Senate, said in the video. "Basically, what they want to do is undo the first nine months of Trump's presidency, and hold the American people hostage unless we cave. And we're not going to cave."

The congressman noted that the House has passed a continuing resolution to keep the government open, but Democrats in the Senate have voted against it.

"So I have news for Schumer. The ball is in their court. We passed it out of the House," stated Moore. "All Republicans in the Senate have voted for it and three Democrats have joined us. So the time is short."

Moore referenced comments from Schumer demonstrating the left's indifference to the potential suffering of Americans, while also pointing to the Senate minority leader's fear of U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) replacing him in the Senate.

"Schumer said in a political article this morning that every day the government's closed is better for him and his party. But what he doesn't see is it's not better for the American people," Moore stressed. "He's playing politics with our nation's future, with the funding of our military, with ICE, and many others, so he can hold to the left wing of the party because he knows AOC wants to run against him in the Senate."

The lawmaker believes it is not the appropriate time to give in to Democratic demands.

"But we need to hold the line," Moore said. "Y'all keep our nation in your prayers."
