The popular weight loss injections, known as GLP-1’s, are giving fraudsters a new way to scam people out of money.

WAFF reported that scams are on the rise and can be found in fake online ads, text messages and fake celebrity endorsements generated by AI.

The Better Business Bureau (BBB) of North Alabama said it has received numerous reports about fake GLP-1 products.

“GLP-1s are a prescription medicine, so you should be going through a physician to get a prescription, whether you are doing telehealth or you are actually physically going into your doctor’s office,” Reeves said. “There’s also some online pharmacies that are legitimate, maybe they are compounding pharmacies, and you can go through that process as well.”

The BBB suggests purchasing injections only with a prescription and only from a pharmacy patients are familiar with.

While many of the faulty injections purchased were never delivered, Reeves said some people have reported receiving fake pills or shots.
