There is a national increase in interest in honey as a health food.
There is increased interest in local honey as a preventive for allergies and other maladies.
Preppers are adding honey to their store of necessities in case the economy or the supply chain shuts down.
Now, Auburn University and Alabama A&M's agriculture extension programs are hosting the 30th Annual Alabama Extension Beekeeping Symposium. It will be held on February 1 from 8:30 to 4:30 PM at the Clanton Performing Arts Center. The venue is close to the geographical center of Alabama, just off I-65.
Keynote speakers include Dr. Marla Spivak and Dr. Frank Rinkevich. Other presenters include Alabama Extension Agents, members of the Auburn University Bee Lab and Alabama Journeyman Beekeepers.
There is a $45 registration fee. Lunch is included. Registrations made after January 24 will not include lunch.
The symposium is for both veteran beekeepers and newbies who would like to get started. You can sign up for the beginner's beekeeping course that runs concurrently at the Symposium. It will teach you what you need to get through your first year in beekeeping.
The vendor hall will be full of informational booths and vendors selling equipment, plants, crafts and many other items related to beekeeping.
Save on shipping! Many vendors are taking pre-orders for delivery at the Symposium. Some of those taking pre-orders include MillerBee Mfg, Rossman Apiaries, Dadant, East Alabama Bee Company, Pigeon Mountain Trading Company, and Foxhound Bee Supply.
