The U.S. Border Patrol detained a Bessemer murder suspect attempting to flee to Mexico on Monday.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 800 block of Willow Bend Lane, Bessemer, to investigate a report of a person shot at 2:23 a.m. on Sunday.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered Gumero Olvera Castro, 33, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Concord Fire & Rescue responded to the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Castro’s brother-in-law, Luis Rey Guerro Martinez, 35, shot Castro in a domestic dispute. A capital murder warrant has been obtained against Martinez.
U.S. Border Patrol detained Martinez as he attempted to travel into Mexico on Monday morning.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s detectives are working with the U.S. Border Patrol and the Kennedy County Sheriff’s Office in Texas to prepare to pick the suspect up as soon as possible.
