The man authorities say shot his wife, their two children, and his niece and nephew last July has been indicted on five capital murder charges.
Brandon Allan Kendrick, II, 33, was indicted on one count of murder of two or more persons and four counts of murder with a victim under the age of 14. He faces the death penalty.
According to court documents, the victims were at a home on Greentree Drive in West Blocton on July 18. That evening, Kendrick shot his wife, Kelse Kendrick, 24; his son, Kaleb Kendrick, 6; his daughter, Kynli Kendrick, 2; the couple’s nephew, Colton Daniels, 8; and their niece, Haley Daniels, 6. All victims were shot in the head and were pronounced dead on the scene.
The suspect lived on his grandparents’ property. His grandfather is Allan Kendrick, retired pastor of Oasis of Praise Church. They had just held a birthday party for Colton, who was to turn 9 just a few days later.
Allan Kendrick said he and his wife, Gay, heard the shots before their grandson came into their bedroom with a shotgun. They were able to subdue him but said he had no recollection of the shooting.
Allan Kendrick told 1819 News his grandson lived with them after experiencing physical, mental and sexual abuse as a young child.
