President Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential race Sunday after weeks of telling America he would stay in the race.

While he will continue until the end of his term, Jan. 20, 2025, Biden gave in to pressure from the Democratic Party to end his campaign.

“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term," Biden said in a letter.

Biden said he is supporting Vice President Kamala Harris as the nominee for the Democratic Party.

"My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term," stated on X. "My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this."

Following the announcement, U.S. Rep. Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) sent well wishes.

"I certainly wish Joe Biden the best," Aderholt stated. "But whether he is the nominee or Kamala Harris, it really makes no difference. This administration has been the worst of my lifetime and the results in November will reflect that. This is just rearranging chairs on the Titanic."

U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) said even under a Harris administration, illegal immigration would continue to be an issue.

"Kamala Harris is the Border Czar," he stated. "More than NINE MILLION illegal aliens have come across our southern border and endangered American families under her leadership."

U.S. Rep. Jerry Carl (R-Mobile) said Biden's decision was a "great day for America" and asked how long until the president pardoned his son, Hunter Biden.

U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) doubled down her support of the Trump-Vance GOP ticket.

U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) said Biden was "never mentally fit to be president" and joined his GOP U.S. Senate colleagues in demanding Biden step down.

Republican nominee for Alabama's second congressional district Caroleene Dobson said Biden dropping out doesn't mean the country is safe.

"No matter whose name is at the top of the ballot, Democrats at every level have supported rising inflation, an open border, and the soft-on-crime policies that have threatened our communities and put a strain on American families," she tweeted with a video of her calling Harris "Biden 2.0."
