A Ramsay International Baccalaureate High School student was killed in a house fire, along with her parents, early Wednesday morning.
Birmingham Fire Rescue responded to the blaze at 2:45 a.m. at 6625 Avenue K. Firefighters removed three people from inside the home and transported them to UAB Hospital. All three were pronounced dead a short time later.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the decedents as Edward Hicks III, 49,
Farintina Pleshette Hicks, 48, and their daughter, Laila Nicole Hicks, 18.
Laila Hicks was a senior at Ramsay IB High School. The school is offering prayers and grief counseling for students and staff.
The Birmingham Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
