Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin is pushing for State Rep. Barbara Drummond (D-Mobile) to win the Mobile mayoral race. Drummond will face off with former Mobile District Court Judge Spiro Cheriogotis on September 23.

Woodfin is the first Big 10 mayor to endorse a candidate in the state's second-largest city.

"Last week, voters across Alabama made their voices heard in city elections," Woodfin said. "In Mobile, despite being outspent nearly three-to-one by her opponent, Barbara came out on top. That shocked some people. It didn’t shock me."

"I’ve watched Barbara lead as a State Representative with integrity, compassion, and grit," he continued. "She doesn’t just talk the talk, she shows up, listens, and speaks her truth. Even when you disagree, you know where she stands, and you know she respects you. That’s real leadership."

Woodfin said he believes Drummond would keep families safe and strengthen the economy.

Drummond said she is thankful for the endorsement.

“When it comes to good governance from city hall, Mayor Woodfin is leading by example: tackling tough problems like crime while ensuring children in Birmingham have pathways to success,” said Drummond. “As mayor, I look forward to working hand-in-hand to ensure Alabama’s cities make big strides forward.”

Birmingham was listed among the most dangerous small cities in America, topping the nation in murders in 2024, with 73 murders per 100,000 residents.
